killer korrespondence

Happy organic sprouts.

Dave, love your bread. Please think about making a loaf of bread that is made with sprouted, like silver hills bakery, only yours would be better and local. Everyone would buy it.
Thanks

Done. Hook it up at Portland Farmers' Market on any Saturday. And Beaverton opens on May 12, so you can get it there too. Good Seed Sprouted Wheat--the first killer sprouted bread. "Peace Bomb" sprouted wheat baguettes too!

Yo Dave, my roommate and I had the pleasure of enjoying your fine bread last night and we were blown away with how good it was. We read your story on the back of the label and chuckled for a bit. We have to be honest with you, we are so stoked with your bread, I think we found a new favorite. And being organic is the most important part. Really good job man! We love it! Thanx, Mark and Caleb-

Looks like things are so great for you! Someone at the Hillsdale Farmers Mkt. appreciation dinner said she has to send DKB to Eugene relatives all the time! Love hearing about printed bags & bumperstickers etc. Lots of continued success to a great guy & product. Chris
PS Glad you are finally a Burlingame!

I live in N. Portland and have tried every variety that I have seen. Just now, the spelt...it's awesome. I was working for a bakery here in Portland (Portland Specialty Baking) who mass produced bagels for Starbucks (horrible horrible) nothing they put out compares to what you are doing. If you need any help promoting your product, let me know. I'm right in the neighborhood and want to see your continued success, since it's directly affecting my life and preventing me from eating bread on drugs. Keep up the good work!!!-Joe V.

Oh my gosh! Dave, thank you.

I don't know how you managed to get in the Klamath Falls Fred Meyer store but I'm so glad you did.

I don't eat wheat - in fact up until this past month I haven't eaten any bread for 2 1/2 years. I discovered that wheat made me miserable (pain in the soft tissues) and was afraid to even try spelt, kamut, or any kind of sprouted wheat. Still haven't tried anything but the spelt.

Fred Meyer carried a spelt bread and I tried it one weekend about a month ago. Oh my!!! Then today when I dropped by to pick up a loaf and saw your Good Seed Bread, I had to try it. All the ladies where I work wanted to try a slice. It's wonderful, thank you again.

Is your bread sold anywhere in Sacramento, CA? Bought some at the Vancouver farmers market this weekend while visiting. Excellent bread.... Also I am a psychotherapist, very interested disclosure on the bread package. Sounds like a real personal transformation. Pat

today's pix

You guessed it: 21 Whole Grains cooling on the rack at NatureBake (1170 NE 63rd)Come out and support your local farmer and get some killer bread (and some of Kristin's Sweet Delights) at Vancouver Farmers' Market (open every day!) Never been one to shy away from a double biceps pose for a good cause (a new dkb sign at Vancouver Farmers' Market).
Keone (and his wife, Kristin and daughter, Karina) sells my bread at the market.

talking killer bread

In response to your "bigger, less amazing" or "smaller, more exciting" low carb question, the answer is definitely SMALLER, MORE EXCITING! Yum.

Anonymous

I'm glad you see it my way. You know I am pretty sure most people feel the same way, and that's the route I'm following as I get ready to introduce a "low-carb" bread at farmers' markets soon. Smaller slices will mean less carbs and calories per serving. a shot of killer bread without all the calories.
As for me, I'll probably keep eating the fat slices and just keep pumping iron and pushing the elliptical trainer.

Dave

We LOOOOOOVE your bread. We buy it at the Salmon Creek Fred Meyer and it seems to be gaining popularity. My 11 year old daughter asked me last week if she could take a few slices for her WASL testing snacks. If that isn't a testimonial, I don't know what is. I brought home a loaf of the rye today and can't wait to try it!

It's not your grandfather's Jewish rye. I guarantee it's like no other rye bread you've had. Proper Eats in St. Johns makes great vegan rubens on it, and it makes some of the best toast! Dave

up close and personal-like...say hello to sprouted wheat peace bombs and spelt raisin seed bread, yo

Killer Dave,
Do you make/sell sprouted breads at all? I'd be interested if so! Please let me know at your earliest convenience!

The answer is yes, but you left me no way to respond, other than right here. I hope you read this!

Saturday (tomorrow) is not just Earth Day, it's week 3 of the Portland Farmers' Market season. If you've never been there, you really should come down for one of these sprouted wheat Peace Bombs (left) or a loaf of killer Good Seed Spelt Raisin Bread (below). And that's just at the DKB booth!

These seedy and raisiny spelt loaves (right) will be sliced the next time you see 'em.

My friends from the start of this killer bread journey, Jean and Ugo.

see ya at the market

Hey you...just a reminder to visit the Portland Farmers' Market this Saturday (Earthday!). I will be there, and I would love to meet you. See what's there (besides Dave's Killer Bread) at:

http://www.portlandfarmersmarket.org

Oh, and I want to thank everyone for making me feel good about what I do. Like this testimonial:

Dave,
We've been fans of your bread since you first showed up at the Portland Farmers market with it. I was skeptical of the claims but that first taste of Blues Bread put me straight. Its not a proper weeks' shopping until we've swung by your stand for a couple of loaves. It's worth the drive from Troutdale just for the bread.
Keep on keepin' on.

evolution of a killer bread truck sign

Bored drivers on I-5 from Portland to Eugene will soon be reporting sightings of Killer Bread trucks with pretty pix similar to the one here. (Shobi Dahl)

Here is an earlier mock-up.(Shobi Dahl)

The original "killer line-up" idea (below) was submitted by Betsy Levine, who won our "design a truck sign" contest late last year.

Here is a rendering from Ryan Alexander-Tanner(ohyesverynice.com) who also happens to be the DKB cartoon artist.
