bridge pedal participants speak!

Hello

I was an early rider on the Bridge pedal and got a sample heading up the Marquam bridge. I liked your product SO much I took more than what I should have, sorry.

I do my major shopping at Winco on Cedar Hills Blvd (I have three teens and can't afford regular shopping at New Seasons, etc. ) I presume Winco might not choose to carry your bread. BUT I do buy specialty bread and produce items at Bales Thriftway at Cornell/Saltzman and also at the QFC at Bethany/Laidlaw.

I hope to see your products there soon, I will be a customer, I swear! Great stuff!!!!

Robin

Hey Robin: Check out Bales Thriftway. They have a pretty good selection of DKB. Dave

Hi Dave,

I met you and tasted your awesome bread at the Providence Bridge Pedal last Sunday. I checked your website after the ride and was excited to learn that it is available here in Eugene at several markets.

Yesterday when I received your email offering the coupon for a loaf of Peace Bomb, I subscribed to your newsletter. I received my coupon -- thank you -- but I must say I am disappointed that it is only redeemable at your bakery in Portland. Is there a way those of us who live out of town can enjoy this offer as well?

Sincerely,

Pam

Nope. but perhaps when I'm down there for the UofO Street Faire (again) next month, I'll have a similar offer to make up for it. I like you Lane County folks, too!
Dave

Thanks for the doing the Bridge Pedal!!! I found you at the Farmers market and love the bread and am spreading the word.

Mr. Dahl:
I just passed through your website and will take some time to read your story. Thank you in advance for taking the time to give some historical context and I congratulate you on your current successes.
However this has all come together for you, I would like to thank you
for some amazing breads that I have consumed over the last 9 months.
I stumbled across them at a sampling at Pastaworks and fell in love immediately.
I just wanted to let you know that I became a fan immediately and wish you much continued success. mmmm...good!!

Thanks,
Patrick

PS: Not sure if it was the elevation of the Marquam Bridge, the freshness of the sample, or my oxygen debt at that point but the sample I had was to die for. I want more.
I hope you can make it over to NatureBake by Sunday to get your free Peace Bomb!
Dave
Your bread rocks. I'm glad I started the ride early and got a sample. I've had it before but forgot how good it was... Will look out for it.Thanks

dave's killer bread...AM Northwest...somebody pinch me!

Just when I thought life was great, it got better. I never dreamed of this. After Willamette Week's Byron Bender mislabeled me as a "killer" (honest mistake--no hard feelings, Byron!) on this show a couple of weeks back, our friend, Mason West called them and asked if we could set the record straight by giving me time to tell the real story. I didn't know he had done it until last Friday afternoon when he called me as my hands were full twisting up 120+ CinnDawgs for last weekend's farmers' markets.
"You're on AM Northwest, fool," he chortled. "Next Tuesday...get your @#@$#% ready!" The short notice was good news to me. It's better not to think about such things too much. You know, just do what I always do: tell it like it is.

It was a great experience...watch the clip:

dave's killer bread makes marquam bridge debut

Setting up for the Bridge Pedal event, for which we were sponsors last Sunday morning.

Is Jenny a killer? No way, but the bread was, and so was the weather...

...and the view from the bridge.

Denise on the prowl.

A well-deserved rest for the troops--and nobody fell off the bridge. Thousands of riders got a taste of Dave's Killer Bread. A lot of the riders weren't in the best of spirits when they got to us, due to the traffic bottlenecks they'd endured. But most of them were hungry, and none seemed the least disappointed with what we had to offer.

lisa rocks the "good seed" shirt

Maybe you've seen our new t-shirts, the ones with the big "Good Seed" logo on the front, and "Just Say No to Bread on Drugs" above the dkb logo on the back. We also have spaghetti-strap tank tops with the same artwork on them.

Lisa, who works at First Alternative Co-op in Corvallis, was kind enough to model one for us. She sent me these photos, doing her part to make the world a better place.

If you can come by NatureBake (503.335.8077), you can get one of these babies (the shirt, not the model) for ten bucks. Otherwise, check out our new website, where we ship the regular t-shirts for $12 and the ones shown here for $15.

making the recipe work for me

I wanted to try Dr. Veronica Esagui's http://www.gentledoctors.com/ and her husband Dan Danlar's http://danlarart.com/ recipe "Dave's Killer Tuna Melt", but guess what I'm allergic to? Yep, tuna. It has always been one of my favorite foods, and it has some serious protein, which I haven't been getting enough of.
So I thought, how about canned salmon? 'Spose I'm allergic to that too? As soon as I thought of it, I had to go to the store and buy a couple of cans to find out right then and there. To my utmost relief, I'm not--so far, it's tuna and tuna only which makes me break out in hives and swells my face to twice it's normal size.
For the recipe linked to above, I substituted canned salmon, skipped the onion, and used grated mozzerella cheese. Instead of Blues Bread I used my stand-by, Good Seed. I'm telling you, it was better than my usual home-cooked fare: Dave's Killer Cheeseburgers (on Good Seed). I'm getting ready to make another one or two right now. Can't wait!
HEY YOU! PLEASE SEND ME YOUR DKB SERVING SUGGESTION! HELP ME EXPAND MY HORIZONS!!!

Here is the recipe: 2 cans tuna in water, well drained and add mayonnaise to taste. 1/2 white onion diced and mixed into tuna. 1 Tomato 1 Small can of pineapple well drained. 2-3 Slices of Dave's Killer Bread (Toasted)Blues is our favorite White Cheese (Havarti, Swiss or Extra Sharp Cheddar) First place tuna mixed with mayo and onion on top of Dave's Killer Bread that has been toasted. Next spread a layer of pineapple on top of the tuna with a slice of tomato. Add a few thin onion rings if desired and add your favorite cheese on top. Set oven on broil and place your rack in the center of the oven. Place your melt into the oven until cheese is completely melted over your tasty creation that should take about one or two minutes!

but what does monkey think?

Have you seen the Dave's Killer Bread shopping bags? If you have, perhaps you already know that they are made of recycled plastic bottles. Pretty cool. (Perhaps a little too white, though.)

If you like that, you'll like what these guys are doing with pet products. I was looking for ways to save my furniture from the ravages of my cat, Monkey's, claws. I ended up spending $50 on cat stuff from these guys, and then I visited their website http://www.worldwise.com/ and was impressed with their approach. For instance, they use those same recycled plastice bottles to make fluffy pet beds.

Ok, so I still haven't seen Monkey, and I don't know if any of this stuff even works, but the window perch looks great, and the furniture spray smells real nice.

dkb recipe #4: another killer breakfast

[Dave's note: all three of the breads shown in this post might be called "killer seed bread", but I believe the bread refered to in the email is the "original" Good Seed Bread.]

Subject: From Eugene

Dear Dave: we have discovered your bread & there is none-other like it! We've left our favorite bread company here in Eugene (Great Harvest) & promote yours - this is what I do: At Market of Choice........I put 2 loaves in my basket & re-arrange the rest for good display - (if someone is around I tell them about your bread) then at the check stand, I ask the checker why your bread is on the TOP shelf & not as accessable as it should be............The SEED bread is our favorite but also buy the RYE for sandwiches - The SEED bread is absolutely the best bread in the world - we have a house in Surprise (Phoenix, Az.) area - I take 3 loaves with me on the airplane to last us while we are there as I cannnnnnot buy that quality there..........Dave, try grinding almonds for Almond Butter - spread on bread/dust with cinnamon - slice banana on it - that's the KILLER BREAKFAST...... We bought the Bosh Breadmaker while at a cooking shop in Arizona.......my husband is the breadmaker; however, since discovering your bread, he's stopped making bread Hooked on your Killer Seed Bread - Tony & Karoline
